There are several dangerous roads in the greater Louisville area. If you have to travel around the city, attempt to plan your trips around these nasty stretches of road. Your safety and the safety of your family are well worth taking the long way, adding a few minutes to your travel time, and avoiding a potential car accident. Before you head out again, keep the following dangerous Louisville roads in mind when mapping your route.
Highway 60, also known as Dixie Highway: This is one of the most dangerous stretches of road in the entire State of Kentucky, but the area of Highway 60 that runs through Louisville, called Dixie Highway, is especially dangerous. Numerous fatalities occurred on Dixie Highway during the 2013 calendar year, due largely to the heavy amounts of traffic, as well as the large industrial trucks and semis that travel this road. These fatalities earned this stretch of highway the dubious “Dixie Die-way” nickname. There were also nearly 300 accidents with injuries on Dixie Highway in 2013.
Poplar Level Road is another very dangerous stretch of roadway in Louisville. In 2013, this road had four fatalities; more than any other stretch of road in the city, and second only to Dixie Highway. There were many more accidents with non-fatal injuries on Poplar Level Road.
